Mom/Baby Connection • Tuesdays 1:30-2:30 p.m.
E.F. Ball Medical Education Bldg.

A mother/baby support group facilitated by a IBCLC (a Certified Lactation Consultant). Infant weight checks are offered each week. Topics have included communication skills for new mom and dads, pediatric dentistry, home safety, and infant massage. Periodic guest speakers present information or services suggested by group attendees.

Beginning Steps
Beginning Steps is an introduction to the BMH Birthing Center and the Expectant Parent Program. Meet one-to-one with a Registered Nurse and discuss issues faced early in pregnancy, such as nutrition, pre-term labor, and breastfeeding education. Attendees may sign up for other childbirth classes, and request a tour of the birthing center. Contact Access Services to set up an appointment at (765) 741-1073.

July 2

Childbirth Refresher Class •6-8:30 p.m., OMP 2-4

Single-session class for those who have completed a childbirth preparation course. Safe Sitter Class• 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.• OMP, 2 Sessions

Class acquainting the participants with responsibilities of caring for young children, accident prevention, first aid concepts, rescue breathing, entertainment for various ages, management of common behavioral problems, safety for sitter "do's and don'ts, and more. " Beginning last 1/2 hour of the 2nd day, there will be a graduation ceremony and parents are encouraged to attend. Fee is $50 per participant. After Baby Comes • 6-8:30 p.m. • OMP 6-8 2 sessions
Basics of caring for the baby during the first six months life are covered for new parents, grandparents and other care givers. Topics in the two sessions include bathing and routine care, handling crying, keeping baby safe and healthy, infant CPR, handling infant choking, when to call the doctor, using play to help baby start learning. This class can be attended before or after baby's delivery. This program provides trained volunteer cosmetologists to teach women how to cope with skin changes and hair loss using cosmetics and skin care products. Patients attending the program receive a free cosmetic kit. You must register for this program by calling (765) 751-5302.

This one-session class for mom and her support person is recommended for the sixth to eighth months of pregnancy. However, it may be taken anytime desired. Kids N the Kitchen: Calcium:Are You Getting Enough? • 6 p.m. • BMH Jackson Street Center

Find out how you can prepare calcium-rich foods to include in your diet each day and make healthy eating fun. Class is led by registered dietitian. Please let us know if your child/children have any food allergies. Open to children age 7-13, and one parent or guardian must be present during class. Sibling Class • 6-7:30 p.m. • OMP 6,7,8 

Big Brother/Big Sister Class. Siblings of the new baby who are three years and older are invited to this class where they will learn about being a big brother or sister. The family will visit the Birthing Center to see where the baby will be born and where mom and baby will stay. A video will help children and parents know what to expect following the arrival of the baby. One class fee covers the family.
