J. Matthew Neal, MD, MBA, CPE, FACP, FACE

Dr. Neal is a native of Muncie and completed his undergraduate and medical studies at Indiana University, a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Massachusetts, and a graduate certificate in epidemiology and biostatistics at Drexel University. He completed his internal medicine residency at BMH and fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at Indiana University.

He has been in the private practice of endocrinology since 1993 and stayed on as adjunct endocrinology faculty at IU Medical Center until 1995. He became an associate director in 1996 and program director in 2000.

He is a dedicated educator and the author of three endocrinology textbooks which are used by medical schools and residency programs. He is a past winner of the Cullison Housestaff Teaching Award and is also the author of many peer-reviewed journal articles. In addition, he has been a question writer for the American Board of Internal Medicine, reviewer for MKSAP (Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program) and reviewer for several peer-reviewed medical journals.

He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Endocrinology, and is a member of the Indiana ACP Governor’s Council. He has been awarded the CPE (Certified Physician Executive) designation by the American College of Physician Executives, and also serves as a faculty advisor for students at IU School of Medicine. He is a member of the Authors Guild and American Medical Writers Association. One of his major interests is helping residents improve their writing and presentation skills.

He enjoys photography, building computers, astronomy, music, football, collecting fountain pens, reading, golf, and writing fiction. He is the author of two medical techno-thrillers, Specific Gravity and Ontario Lacus.

 

Brandon S. Dickey, MD
Director, Ambulatory Medicine

Dr. Dickey is a native of Anderson. IN and completed undergraduate and medical degrees at Indiana University. He completed his internal medicine residency at Ball Memorial Hospital. During his residency, he was extremely active in the American College of Physicians Indiana Chapter and helped organize many events. Dr. Dickey is director of the Ambulatory Clinic and has a particular interest in medical informatics and the electronic medical record.

His interests include virtually all sports and games. He is a distance runner who competes in mini-marathons. He enjoys playing golf and participates in a summer softball league with his church (First Church of God ECI). He has been known to play an XBox game or two and will never shy away from a good game of Euchre or Texas Hold-‘Em.

 

 

Ryan M. Johnston, MD

Dr. Johnston is a native of Indianapolis and completed undergraduate and medical studies at Indiana University. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University and practiced in the Chicago area for several years before joining our faculty. Dr. Johnston is director of the medical teaching service for the residency program, and is also director of BMH's Hospitalist Program. He is a past winner of the Cullison Housestaff Teaching Award.

As faculty, he finds his time spent educating the next generation of physicians extremely rewarding, and a privilege. The academic environment is intellectually challenging, collegial, and truly lives up to the slogan, “Academic Medicine in a Community Setting.” The residents at BMH are energetic, inquisitive, and constantly challenge him to give his best effort daily. He could not be happier with his decision to return home to Indiana, and to BMH.

His personal interests include spending time with his wife and two sons. He enjoys all forms of music (except country), and playing all sports.

 

 

Joni E. Miller. MD, FAAP, FACP
Associate Director, Internal Medicine Residency

Dr. Miller is a native of Portland, IN and earned undergraduate and medical degrees from Indiana University. She completed combined residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Orlando Regional Medical Center (Orlando, FL), where she served as Chief Resident during her last year. She was in the private practice of internal medicine and pediatrics in Portland IN for two years before joining the residency as a full-time faculty member. Dr. Miller was recently elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. She is chair of the Department of Medical Education's Research & Scholarly Activity Subcommittee.

Her outside interests include spending time outside, running, being with family and friends, complementary and alternative medicine, and community activism through the United Way and as vice-chairperson of her local county board of health.


 

Daryl G. Morrical, MD, FCCP

Dr. Morrical is a native of Portland, IN. He completed a degree in aeronautical engineering at Purdue University, obtained his medical degree from Indiana University, and completed his medical residency at Duke University. After a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Vermont (where he also learned to cross country ski and windsurf), he joined Medical Consultants in Muncie and has been actively involved in teaching and mentoring students and residents. Dr. Morrical is the medical director of the Intensive Care Unit, and is a past winner of the Cullison Housestaff Teaching Award.

Although he is not a big basketball fan, he usually has a successful team to cheer for from one of those institutions. He has led studies in faith and medicine with the students and residents, and enjoys spending time with his family in activities such as tennis, bicycling, sailing, table tennis, and wakeboarding/wakesurfing.


 

Lynn A. Witty, MD, FCCP

Dr. Witty is from the Muncie area and completed her undergraduate degree in medical technology at Ball State University and earned her medical degree from Indiana University. She completed residency training at BMH and was Chief: Resident as well. She then completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Duke University. She is involved with coordinating resident research activities and is very involved in clinical trials. She is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. In addition, she serves as medical director of Pulmonary Rehabilitation and chair of the Department of Medicine Peer Review Committee.

Dr. Witty’s interests include traveling, music, and spending time with her family and friends.
