Rehabilitation Services

Blackford Community Hospital's physical, occupational and speech therapies are committed to providing excellence in patient care by maintaining the highest level of performance standards and by using cost-effective, state-of-the art technologies.

Hours of operation to inpatients and outpatients are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Scheduling is done on a limited basis based on the needs of the individual patients on weekends, holidays and after hours. Most outpatients are treated by the staff of Midwest Health Strategies the Blackford County YMCA in Hartford City.

Physical therapy staff strives to help patients to restore and achieve maximum range of movement and pain relief and to strengthen muscular and cardiovascular systems. This is accomplished through neurological rehabilitation, modalities (such as hot and cold packs), therapeutic exercise and gait training.

Speech therapy is provided in either a group or individual setting, based on patient needs. The speech pathologist is available to patients, family members and staff for consultation, education and training.

Occupational therapy services include the assessment, evaluation and appropriate interventions necessary to develop, improve and restore daily living skills; to prepare the patient to return to work or a leisure activity or to improve performance; and to enhance educational skills.
