Mar 28 , 2008

Ball Memorial Hospital is looking for teen volunteers to assist its Volunteer Resources department this summer and during the upcoming 2008-09 school year with various duties to assist patients and staff.

Junior volunteer candidates must be 14 years of age or older, but not yet have completed high school. All must submit an application, immunization history, two current TB skin tests completed within the last three months, and a written letter of reference from their school guidance counselor.  Home-schooled students may submit a letter of reference from an individual who is able to comment on their character and abilities.  All candidates must be pursuing a high school diploma.  All materials must be submitted to the BMH Volunteer Resources office by 6 p.m., Thursday, June 5.

Applications and a copy of the eligibility requirements are available at all high school guidance offices in Delaware and surrounding counties.

“Serving as a junior volunteer is a great way for area teens to experience a healthcare environment firsthand as well as lend a helping hand to our patients and staff,” said Sandra K. Hoover, director of Volunteer Resources at BMH.  “I know students will find the rewards of this experience will last a lifetime, and I want to encourage all students to learn more about this opportunity through their guidance counselor.”

Selection will be limited to 60 participants. Teens will be required to spend Saturday, June 14 in an all-day orientation program and must commit to an additional two consecutive days of training from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Students interested in job shadowing or observation programs should contact individual hospital departments for more information and available opportunities.  For department information, contact the BMH main operator at (765) 747-3111.
